Having practiced real estate law and dealt with various issues around zoning and planning I find that wrapping my head around concepts of property are pretty simple. There are public benefits to private ownership. We’ve held this to be a tenant of our law for hundreds of years. This common good was extended to intellectual property in the last few hundred years. However, IP law is a newer domain and technology seems to be pushing our concepts of property beyond what many of us can grasp. This push extends into cultural change, behavior change, and now for so much fun, legal process change.

I think it looks like fun. If it’s for the public good the public gets to be involved in the “property granting” process. About time!
