Cob.

If you read this article closely you’ll find that cob was the mix used to sculpt the clothes of the buddha.  That was back in 6 ad.  Cob seems to last a long time.  What is most fascinating is that their methods of “external” sculpting is similar to ours.  We use nails or screws and they used wooden pegs.

Somehow this article tells me two things (a) they had a high level of skill a long long time ago, and (b) nothing much has changed overtime.
